A visit with Santa

Before the Christmas rush my friend Santa Clause comes to help decorate the Tessmer of Fairfax Christmas tree and set up the trains. Sometimes my friends with their children stop by for a visit while Santa is here. Perhaps this year you and your children might be among our visitors. I hope so. This is a special treat for both children and their parents. As one Air Force officer told me, "It is the best thing I have ever done with my daughter."

Santa visit details

You need not tell your children that they are going to see Santa, you can just tell them that you are going to visit your friend Joe. I will be prepared for your visit and will have treats for you and the children. Then a small surprise, my friend Santa is in the lower level helping me decorate my Christmas tree, can the children help him?

You are welcome to provide a gift for Santa to give to your child. We also ask that you tell us or e-mail us some nauty and nice things that the children have done over the past few days. Santa wants to encourage all children to be nice.

Santa portrait sessions are scheduled back to back each half hour and our entire attention is on you and your children. It is critical that clients arrive and depart on time.

There is a fee of $150.00 per session and includes one special event package unit, for example 3 4" X 6" prints. Additional photographs are sold by package units and are available at $30.00 each, if ordered within two weeks of the Santa portrait session. Click here for a complete list of all available package units.

Please note that Santa Clause is a professional and his exact apperance varies slightly from year to year. In addition, athough the same ornaments are used to decorate the Tessmer of Fairfax Chrismas tree the placement of the ornaments are different every year. However, there will be many Waterford, White House, and train ornaments as there are every year.

I look forward to welcoming you and your children to this special event.

Christmas Day Visit From Santa

Holly Jingle Bells, the elves forgot to pack a special gift for your children.  What can be done?  Simple, on Christmas, Santa will make a special delivery to your home to deliver the special gift.  The magical flying sleigh only works on Christmas Eve so Santa must drive to your home in his Honda.

One caveat.  This is not a Tessmer of Fairfax photographic experience it is a special delivery service. On Christmas day, Joe Tessmer will put aside his role as photographer and play the role of Santa.  Therefore, children previously photographed with Santa at Tessmer of Fairfax may notice the difference between the two Santas.

The fee for the Christmas day visit from Santa is $150.00.

The Christmas When Joe Really Saw Santa

This is a true story.  I was seven years old living in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  My parents had purchased a tabletop tree and decorated it with German ornaments that they had purchased at a specialty store near Baltimore.  Some of these German ornaments have survived almost 60 years and are on the Tessmer of Fairfax Christmas tree pictured above.  Beside that tree was a comfortable easy chair.

I woke up about 1:00 AM and tiptoed down the stairs to see if Santa had left any presents.  Much to my surprise, as I peaked around the corner of that darkened room, what did I see beside that unlit tree, Santa asleep in the chair.  In a moment, I realized that the best course of action was to go up the stairs as quietly as possible, so as not to wake Santa. I would have to wait for Santa to resumed his nightly rounds before we could open our presents.  I was scared that if I woke Santa, he might get mad and take all of my family’s presents away.  If that happened, everyone would be mad at me.  I got back into bed and waited.  I might have even gotten a few minutes of sleep.  I made a few more trips down the stairs that morning with the same result. What was going on? Why didn't Santa leave? I didn't know. But wasn't that just part of the magic of Christmas.

It must have been about six o’clock in the morning, just before sunrise when I made my last trip down the stairs.  Much to my surprise, with just a litttle sunlight, I saw gifts in the chair in which Santa had been sleeping.  My quick seven-year-old mind jumped to the conclusion that I had really been looking at the presents all morining long and hadn't seen Santa at all.  How foolish I had been.

It took close to sixty years, with all the life experience that goes with it, to realize that I hadn't been a foolish seven year old boy, I had indeed seen Santa that Christmas morning.  For I had come to understand that you only see the real Santa with your heart, not your eyes. I hope all of your children have equally wonderful memories of Christmas.
