Jennifer's Biography

As a student of Mass Communications, many things that are media-related-and people-related-interest me. Professional photography is a recent pursuit in a long list of visual artistry pursuits. I became interested in writing in high school and have stood by my desire to be a professional writer ever since. After graduating from Towson University with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications, I worked as a reporter for a few community newspapers. While on some assignments, I also took photographs to accompany my stories. I enjoyed taking on this extra responsibility much as a cake baker does when he puts the icing on the cake he made; it just seemed like a natural duty to me. During this time, I also took my interest in photography to another level when I began working as an assistant to Joe Tessmer. In the summer of 2001, I agreed to fill in for Valeta Davisson, the wedding coordinator for Tessmer of Fairfax and Joe's assistant, while she took maternity leave.

I felt honored that Valeta thought I was worthy to be her replacement and have done my best to follow in her footsteps since she took me under her wing. Valeta helped me plan the events for my wedding on June 25, 2000 and was there on that day to make sure everything from the ceremony to the reception flowed smoothly-what a godsend she was! I thought that if I could do for other brides what she did for me that it would not only make her but myself proud as well.

Over the course of several weddings, Joe and I have worked well as partners. He brings all the necessary equipment to the locations and I help him with everything from moving the equipment around, to setting it up, to replenishing supplies of film. On days that we photograph a wedding, I keep with me at all times a checklist of the photographs that the bride and groom have specified so Joe and I can track the progress we are making.

I also carry a schedule of events that I have drafted with the help of the bride and the groom. I call them the week before their wedding to go over the events of the day and personalize the services that Joe and I can provide for them throughout the day. I also make suggestions as to how they can get the most enjoyment out of their day and the best use of our services. Sometimes it takes a trained eye to help a couple overcome the hurdles that can befall them on what can be both a spectacular and a stressful day.

What I enjoy most in being a part of Tessmer of Fairfax is assisting in the creation and design of these special photographs, which will become timeless treasures. I know from my own experience of being married what it feels like to go through the whirlwind of a wedding day and feel as if it goes by in a blink. Having professional photographs to linger over afterward makes the memories last forever, and I feel privileged to bring this phenomenon to life for all the couples that Joe and I work with. So, let the wedding bells ring!
